So many reasons why I write,
My passion started young,
When nursery rhymes were read to me
With rhymes to twist the tongue.
I wanted to create my own,
So I got down to work.
My poems made my family laugh,
And that, an extra perk.
Soon, I figured out that I
Could write to tell a story.
That year I used four notebooks,
And I was in my glory.
In junior high, I wanted
Expression without sound.
So I whipped out my journal and
I wrote my feelings down.
In high school language classes,
I received as grades, all A's,
And so I kept on writing,
Enjoying all the praise.
Through childhood and experience
Is how it came to be
That a love of writing has
Become a part of me.
Now, I write to calm my heart,
Or just to pass the time.
Sometimes I write in free verse style;
Sometimes I write and rhyme.
I write to tell my point of view
If things make me irate.
I write when I'm excited and
I want to celebrate.
If someone hurts my feelings
And my world is blue,
I'll jot down a thoughtful prose
To work my feelings through.
Sometimes I'll make a greeting card
To share a private joke,
Or I'll write and frame a piece
For gifts... when I am broke.
I'll write for any reason,
For myself, or child, or man.
But mainly I decide to write
Just because I can.
