Penny Writes a Poem by Boogienights
    Children's Poem Contest Winner

Penny Penelope Applebee
lives with her parents in a house by the sea.
Today she thought that she'd try her hand
at writing a poem, so she sat on the sand.
With her notebook and pencil beneath the blue sky,
to write a great poem is what she'd like to try.
She pondered a while but found nothing to rhyme,
then thought to herself, "I'm just wasting my time!"

Penny Penelope Applebee
wanted so much to rhyme, but it wasn't to be.
So she watched the waves as they rushed to the shore,
as they crashed against cliffs and made quite a roar.
Watched the sun, the seagulls, picked up shells from the sand,
but writing a poem didn't go as she planned.

Penny Penelope Applebee
wanted so badly to write poetry.
She was having some trouble, but then looked around,
at the beautiful sea, all the sights and the sounds.
Felt the warm sand beneath her, the cooling wind blow,
then like magic the words for her poem started to flow!

Penny Penelope Applebee
wrote her poem about what she loved most, the sea.
She wrote it all down in her notebook and then,
read her poem over and over again.
Not all the words rhymed, but that was okay,
she had written her very first poem down today!
All of her words had come from her heart,
and to Penny, that was the very best part.
Later on in her bed, with flashlight in hand,
she'd read about the seagulls, the sun and the sand.
Each time it would bring her back where she loved to be,
next to the wild, big, beautiful sea.
