If you would ever leave and go away,
I’d miss you with my ev’ry waking breath.
My vibrant world would change to midnight grey
as if the dazzling sun fell to its death.
If you would ever leave and go away
I’d wither like a shawl of ancient lace.
Bright stars would quickly fall in disarray --
like tiny specks of dust without a trace.
But if you stay with me and hold my hand –
together we’d remember how to run.
To share our lives forever was the plan --
and mold our many fragments into one.
Our destiny – will always intertwine.
Forever - I am yours and you are mine.

Author Notes
I wrote this poem for my husband's birthday. Since we both have had previous marriages that failed, the word "forever" is a special word of promise for us. We even had FOREVER engraved in our wedding bands twenty-seven years ago. I've written him many love poems over the years, but since the word "LOVE" is a verb and requires action, I wanted to write a love poem without using the word love, but rather showing it.
He loved it.
