Coyote vs.Road Runner: Metaphors by Reese Turner
Cartoon Time writing prompt entry

A native of the great Southwest.
I know both Coyote and Road Runner;
Whether in real life or in cartoons,
I can’t think of a duo funner.

That Coyote just never gives up
But, Road Runner doesn’t mind;
He takes great delight in his flight,
Leaves Coyote in dust behind.

Coyote has open access to all
The products of Acme, Inc.’s
Anvils, pulleys, rockets, more;
Each one would do it, he thinks.

Au contraire, nothing that he rigs
Can snag that Road Runner clever;
Day after day, year after year
Coyote caught road runner? NEVER!

Are there not metaphors of life
Here in the stories of these two?
Are there not lessons to be learned
Of what and what not to do?

Indeed, if you are the hunted,
Keep your sense of humor and wit.
If you are the hunter, keep huntin’ -
And you can still find fame over it.

I believe there’s a Heaven where
Past battles are soon forgot
Where Road Runner and Coyote
Toast, “We were stars, were we not?!”

Author Notes
Once the "Beep" was the Road Runner's as he hit the gear and sped away. Now, too often, it hides words that should not be heard. Oh, for the days when funny was truly funny and laughter was not canned! Full Disclosure: I live on a dead-end road in a rural county in Texas. We have both coyotes and road-runners in our area. I have yet to actually seen the former chasing the latter. You know, "Peace" is a beautiful thing...
