A friend gave me a tip about trailer insurance. AAA will "trailer" your trailer if it breaks down. Whew! The picture above is a snapshot of my friend's hydraulic brakes. The hydraulic "wheel cylinder" is on top. There are two brake shoes on either side. You can tell they're still good, because the shoes are thicker than the backing plates. Once they're the same thickness, it's time to change the shoes, or else the rivets will start to score (dig into and ruin) the inside of the wheel drum.
