Amphibrach meter ~ Rhyming poem
Rebellious September
September arrived wearing verdant green layers;
she flaunted her summertime colors so gay.
She had no intention of ceding to Autumn,
ignoring the cycle of yearly decay.
Reflections of vibrancy painted her blossoms
and golden coat finches flew through the far fields.
The regal sunflowers wore crowned pates of glory,
on strong stalks of courage, they tendered no yield.
When Fall sent soft whispers and tendrils of changes,
September responded by sending new rain.
A southern breeze bellowed midst drenching deluges,
with inches of flooding from wild hurricanes.
October sat patiently in the near future,
awaiting her turn to present her display.
Her clothing, so diff'rent, would surely be stunning
compared to September's puce colored array.
Amidst all the fuss, Mother Nature sat watching
amused at September's rebellious facade.
She knew all the while that the seasons were changing
and Autumn would lead in the Grand Promenade.
