My road back to normal

A Walk in the Park

by Earl Corp

A hard fall on my butt,

Hurt like you know what,

But I’d never guess,

It’d cause a spinal abscess,

I had to take stock,

When told I’d never walk,

I sat up in my bed,

Looked at the doctor and said,
Do you wanna bet?

I’m like none you’ve ever met,

All I did was stare,

At that dreaded wheelchair,

What I thought was cool,

Was the physical therapy in the pool,

While pool therapy wasn’t formal,

I walked like I was normal,

Thanks to therapy in the water,

In 30 days I graduated to a walker,

I started therapy on land,

On crutches I would soon stand,

The infection ruined my hips,

They installed titanium,

So I got it in my cranium,

No crutches or cane,

And there’s no more pain,

No longer would I balk,

In 5k races I would walk,

With my hips rebuilt,

I’d get shirts for a quilt,

After much, blood, sweat, and tears,

I walked in 54 over two years,

The biggest reason to race,

Was to see the doctor’s face,

But to be totally fair,

I owe it all to prayer.
