100-word story
Miscarriage of Justice
by LisaMay
“Why’ve you locked yourself in there, stupid girl?” Cynthia’s mother-in law ranted through the closed door. “I phoned Gary and he’s coming soon. He’ll make you come out.”
Cynthia confronted herself in the mirror, wondering why it didn’t crack wide open like her heart. She barely recognised herself. It seemed so long ago that she’d been a carefree bride, swept away by Gary’s charm.
She stared at the small shape curled, sleeping, in the bottom of the white bowl. Bright streaks of blood trickled down the sides.
Gary needn’t rush. Everything’s fine now, Cynthia told herself. It wasn’t his, anyway.
