Children's Poem

Nighttime Play

by Wils

When the light is switched off and the room has gone dark
When childlike snores can be heard
The toys in the cupboard they all come alive
And get up to pranks quite absurd

Toy soldiers line up in guard like formation
Protecting the bedroom, cos that’s what soldiers do
Teddy walks up feeling really brave
Wearing the uniform Teddy guards too

There’s a rev up of engines in the back corner
Toy cars getting ready for the big race
One lap of the room, the fastest car wins
Red car is sure he’ll be the one in first place

Blocks being built into the room’s tallest tower
Piece after piece, higher and higher
Workmen stand back looking at what they have made
They’ll finish it off once the cement’s a bit drier

Sunlight is seen through the open window
Morning is coming, time to all go
Hurry up toys, back to the toybox
John will be awake if we are too slow
