Have Mercy On Me

by fm wright

Heavenly Father,
At times, I know, I've been a bother.
Very much so, I must confess,
Even to the point of making everything a mess.

More than one of your commandments I have broken.
Each of these of which I've previously spoken.
Realizing that upon Your laws I have tread,
Causing my soul to feel as if it was dead:
Your word on which I had not heartily fed.

On the chessboard of life I've been the devil's pawn.
Now that Your days of contention are nearly gone;

Mercy, I ask that you have on me,
Even though, it is a sinner that I be.
