Ode to Australia

Great Southern Land

by Wils

An ode to Aussie culture
to Vegemite on toast
our anthem "Advance Australia Fair"
the song that means the most

We are the land Down Under
with talk like "Crikey" and "G'day"
but ask any bloke or sheila
they'd have it no other way

Australians give people a fair go
help every mate in need
when chips are down, you need a hand
nobody will recede

Sacred sites like Uluru
and Bungle Bungle Range
connect us with Aboriginality
before white man took the stage

Australia is sports loving
cricket and football proud
when on the Olympic dais
they sing the anthem loud

To those who sadly fell at war
to defend this Southern Land
on Anzac Day dawn service
reminder of sacrifice so grand

Praise to this great country
an island of its own
began a convict settlement
Australia now has grown
