Exceptional
This work has reached the exceptional level
A race horse that wasn't.

Slo' Joe

by Willie P. Smith

Slo' Joe was a race horse
some years back.
He was the slowest horse
to ever run the track.

Everyone could see
he had a big heart
But, he was always the last
to make a speedy start.

Out of his many races,
Joe always came in last.
Finally, it was agreed,
he just wasn't very fast.

After a lot of thought,
his owner let him go.
He was sold to a cowboy
working the flying "O."

The cowboy quickly
put Joe to the test.
He reined real good
and could learn the rest.

He worked Slo' joe every day
Out on the open range.
That ol' horse could turn on a dime
and give back some change.

The cowboy worked his cattle
and roped off Joe's back.
Joe was good at everything
when not on the track

Now Slo' Joe's happy,
He's found his niche at last.
There's many things a horse can do
without being fast.

No, Joe wasn't a fast horse
as far as race horses go
There wasn't a better ranch horse
than ol' slo' joe.
