Something of myself: Come along for the ride.

Solo on a Tandem Bike

by LisaMay

You are a free-wheeling,
carefree kid, enjoying the ride.
Life is a thrill.
Sometimes picking up speed
when your bumpy life goes downhill,
but with feet-up, grin wide,
you avoid the slide and the spill.

You are likely to put off jobs
to avoid tedium’s bore.
Procrastination rules —
heck, if it looks like a chore
you even procrastinate
about when to procrastinate;
but so much gets done,
without keeping score.
At it’s core, life must be fun.

You are generous to a fault,
but whose “fault” is that?
You’d give the shirt off your back
to share what others lack,
and then wear a sack
to a fashion parade.
Lemons = lemonade.

You are a conundrum —
flying and falling,
dragging muddy feet of clay,
fearfully courageous
to face others’ battles,
not jeering, but cheering.
You trample by example
on false gods and profiteering.
Shameless yet shy;
quick to laugh rather than cry.

Stars shoot sparks when you pass by.
With a feather in one hand
and a rock in another,
you’re my sister and my brother.

Oh, you are... are you? writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a humorous free verse or free style poem about YOU, as though you are talking to yourself! Recommended (but not required) that you start every stanza (except your last stanza) with "You are..." . You may start your last stanza with whatever you choose. Your poem can be of any length and genre.

I've spent a lot of solitary time, living alone and in isolated situations over the years -- I often have conversations with myself, pointing out what I perceive to be my good bits to bolster myself up. I know my inadequacies as well, but generally my chats with myself help me to see I am a balanced, capable person.
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
