Monster of the Deep

by Susanjohn

Oh, troublesome me, living wild 'n free,
swiftly zipping this untamed trail;
great adventure -- soon to set sail.

As first morning's light shines down warmly bright,
fresh, captured earthworms wiggle 'n squirm
in swaying buckets ... hands hold firm.

One minuscule wish? Catch that giant fish!
I'll surprise my entire port town,
while earning "Little Gill" gold crown.

Huge, watery beast, all slimy and greased,
evades every fishing line cast;
but, today you'll be mine -- at last!

I'll drift down a treat; maybe, something sweet,
your fishy eyeballs can't resist.
With big, juicy worms I'll persist.

Why put up a fight? Just one little bite ...
I gotcha, monster of the deep!
Now, every fisherman will weep.

But, twinkling sad eye makes me wanna cry;
oh, who needs a crown, anyway?
Quick, lickety splash ... got away!
