A Picture On My Wall

by Diana L Crawford

There's a picture on my wall
a memory that's framed
a frozen moment in time.

A day gone by
captured through
the miracle
of photography.

My daddy's just
a little boy of four
back when barefoot
ruled the day.

His girlie cousin
dressed up so fine in
black patent leather shoes.

What a day
it must have been
three generations strong
not rich - not poor
just sharing love
on a sunny summer day.

Thank you for reading. This picture was taken in 1941. From left to right. Front row: my father and his cousin. Next row: grandfather and my uncle on his lap, just behind, seated, my grandmother, and standing is my grandfathers sister. Seated next is my grandmothers father, and then my grandfathers father and mother, and finally my grandmothers mother. This is my heartbeat family. I never knew either of my great-grandfathers, but I knew both of my great-grandmothers on my dads side. The only person in this picture still with us on earth today is my uncle, the little one on my grandfathers knee. Have a blessed day! xoxo
