Crescent Moon
I've been waiting for this moon
this pale crescent
sliced from the new moon -
floating right where
indigo fades to gold
I thank You for this
moment carved into my
waning day
I could have worked harder
at just about everything -
kindness, calmness, listening -
should have stayed silent
as this world already contains
many words -
should have listened instead
to the small whispers that are
the way that trees
talk to one another -
- tasted the breeze that carries
flower scent -
- noticed the way those feathered
clouds arced their smooth way
across the firmament.
But here in the almost-quiet
behind the house
as darkness gathers increasing force
the moon reminds me that
there is - for now -
yet another day.
