Carpenter bees feed on pollen and nectar, like other bee species. They are attracted to fruit trees, flowering vegetable plants, and flower gardens. The problem is that many times these plants could be blooming right up against your deck or fences. This creates an irresistible temptation and convenience for wood-destroying bees to do their work.
Carpenter bees are solitary travelers who love weathered wood to burrow in but will use any wood available. Painting, staining, or weather treating your wood can help keep bees from noticing it as much as untreated wood. These large, clumsy, bumbling bees are one of our environmentĂ¢??s best friends, and we have to keep a watchful eye on maintaining their population.
