Overcoming The Ultimate Temptation.

Satan's Lament

by Frank Jauregui

Sitting near a window
The temptation was there
But you were dead to the world just then
Dead to the sun, glaring over your shoulder
To beam down on the book spread out on your knee
Dead to the world, dead to me.

From my own darkened corner
 I watched as you read
Stroking the printed page, like the head
Of some frail child
But I held my peace for a while
 Believing
That sooner than late
A thought which I’d planted in time
Some pleasure, some pain
Would sprout vines and so weaving, would tug at your heart back to me!

Headstrong in believing, I still held you bound
I cried out to my minions
Come!
I rang all of Hell’s Bell’s in distress - sent all Sirens screaming!
Come; Deception, Fear - Come Strife!
Bring with you all temptations, all the filth, and dregs of life!

But the Resurrected Savior cried out to you from His Word
Drowning out my own loud roaring,
Not one threat nor lie was heard.
Of no use was my imploring
As I saw you turn the key
The cell door swung loudly open
Creaked and groaned, alarmingly!

But your blindness had been lifted
And my eyes could plainly see
you’d received New Life from God
By His Son, you’d been Set Free!

And now…, you were dead
Dead to me.

Temptation Poetry writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a poem any style or length that deals with any aspect of the topic, 'Temptation'.

The Ultimate Temptation began in the Garden of Eden where Satan tempted Eve to disregard the command of God not to eat of the tree of the knowledge of Good and Evil. Adam and Eve both failed to believe God's word and the door was then open to sin, and death by sin. (Romans 5:12) "Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin;" and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." All other temptations stem from this first failure to listen to and obey God's word over Satan's temptation not to. Now by believing God's word and believing on His Son, whom He has sent - we can be free from the bondage of sin and by God's Word, we can learn to resist all other temptations. John 3:16-17
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
