an 80-word story
In the Pawn Shop

"You like guns?" I looked at the pearl-handled revolver on the counter fondly.
"No," my customer said, shooting a look over his shoulder at my front door.
I smiled at his nervousness. I'd seen it in others many times before.
"And how has this one come into your possession?"
"My father died. Left it to me." The young man's eyes would not meet mine.
I grabbed the gun. "Surprise, lad! It's mine. Stolen from my house two nights ago."
