Racing the storm
My Horse and I

It started out as such a nice day and my horse and I were really enjoying ourselves. I gave the horse her head; she wanted to run so I was enjoying the speed and the scenery. I didn't have my watch or phone so I lost track of time, but we were gone at least an hour and probably more. Then we heard the thunder. We headed back and I kept an eye on the lightning, which is always a concern on horseback, but even more when you are the highest thing in the middle of open fields.
I prayed all the way back that we could make it before the storm reached us. Someone upstairs likes me because I stepped off the horse, we walked into the stable and it was like someone turned on a faucet to full. The rain was pounding the ground so hard it was bouncing four or five inches back up after it hit. If we'd have taken two seconds more, we would have been drenched. Whew!
Thanks to the potlatch club for the theme. I didn't realize it was supposed to be a cascade poem so I missed that part.
