A freestyle poem of my faith.

Reborn

by Sally Law

The sun had lost its shine,

disappearing into

black folds of the sky.

The earth was a tent

of gloom the day He died.

God's only begotten son

was tortured,

unrecognizable,

suffocating to death

by barbarian crucifixion.

The mob watched

as if it were a sport.

"Save yourself ,

if you are

who you claim to be.

God's son?

Show us your power!"

I know what they said

because I was there.

I heard them.

I watched them.

I could barely look.

Such physical suffering

was too much to take in.

I looked, anyway.

How did you do it?

You didn't say a word

in your own defense.

It was then,  I understood.

My sins...

had driven you

to this act.

My lostness...

caused you to reach

across the great divide

and take hold of me.

My desperation...

was your concern.

A love so unlike my own,

flooded my soul.

Standing at the cross,

I was changed.

Something pure and divine

happened that day.

The end of your life

was the beginning of mine.

My sins were forgiven,

and I left them

there... at your feet.

I had been reborn.
