Let us never forget, freedom is NOT FREE

River so Wide

by JLR

Dear brothers and sisters in arms
who crossed the river so wide,

The river Saigon, of the song we sang.
A river so wide; too wide for some.
Fallen at Charlie's doing, the
nights they came from jungle creeping.

Leaving soldiers weeping, so saddened;
the losses did rattle even the bravest.

The jungles were not the home
of the brave, but it was the blood of
the brave that was shed to free
the oppressed, the victims of hate.

Your life lost, pray we never forget
that the cost of freedom is heavily spent.

For love of country, and the tug of
duty called you to serve your America.

May we bow our heads for those lost,
give a handshake to all returning warriors,
and thank God in America, good or bad,
right or wrong; we are all free because
of those who served and were brave.
