This nerve-racking virus
has a death grip on us,
humanity is struggling with this new daunting reality.

Read it originated in a fish market
in China where bats and other exotic
animals were* sold as delicacies.

Rumours have that the virus, active in some of these animals
jumped from them to humans infecting consumers.

This invisible enemy has brought
powerful China to its knees,
death toll in the red republic
is three thousand and rising quick.

Its insidious tentacles have reached out
to the farthest corners of our globe.

At high risk, are the weak and old:
must wear masks, avoid the masses,
wash hands well with soap or jell
if we want to score in this war.

To contain this mortal threat
even mega cities possibly compromised have been
put in preventive quarantine.

Unis, schools, theatres and museums,
libraries, churches and stadiums are all off-limits;
white collars now work from
the safety of their homes via internet.

Man's arrogant ways are to blame
for this new global shame.

We are our worst enemy;
we think to be above all
but we are in for a nasty wake-up-call.

We exploit fauna, flora,
pollute our air and water,
people are getting sicker,
and dying younger.

Our crops, livestock are genetically
manipulated to produce more 'n faster,
our food is no longer genuine
our health 'n wellbeing are on the line.

Earth was created for all life,
not just human life;
we must change our selfish, reckless ways
or numbered are our days.
