Concern for our country and my attempt to help
I Am Worried and Empathetic
by HarryT
I am worried and empathetic
I wonder about the state our democracy
I hear the tirades of our president and his defenders
I see hungry children in cages under aluminum sheets
I want my words to make a difference
I am worried and empathetic
I pretend to be a political pundit as I write
I feel I can change thinking by sending letters to the editor
I touch, I pray, the better angels of some people
I am concerned about our children, their children, our country, and the earth
I cry in my heart for those who seek a better life and are denied
I am worried and empathetic
I understand I must not be silent
I say we, as a people, must respect each other and work together again
I dream the divisiveness that reigns in our country will dissolve
I try to be a good parent by teaching my children kindness by example
I hope we, one day, we'll have a peaceful, caring country again
I am worried and empathetic
