Thoughts of a political prisoner

Stealing Identity

by Marjon van Bruggen

There must be an awful limitation for those who were captured and imprisoned for no apparent reason. Some thoughts that probably enter the prisoner's mind, as he sits there in his dark corner:
- What did I descend to? No horizon, only walls, I am losing all sense of the man I have been. I don't recognize myself.
- Maybe a Kafkaesque character transformed out of a human form into some animal, shunned and locked away from the world? What creature-condition would question himself about the difference between the wild and the tame?
- Love is meaningful only in freedom.

The Prisoner writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
In 100 words, or less, write a short story--not necessarily a flash-fiction, though it could be--on the theme/subject/topic of 'prisoner'. It could be literal or metaphoric.

The word limit for this piece is crippling. I cannot incorporate that also time is a meaningless factor.
