Acceptance

Not impervious, but friable,
my skin cannot shed your words
the way raindrops slough off window panes
and this bitter truth you tell
pricks my conscience into froth:
anger and shame, shreds of despair,
none of which are quelled
by any thought I try,
nor any action, but breathing
into acceptance.
