My Best Decision

My secretary left for another job
I placed an ad in the neighborhood paper
Lorie appeared wrapped in a scarf and
Beige winter coat; she knocked shyly and
Said, "Saw the job advertised in the paper."

The moment our eyes met my heart jumped, a
Little voice said, “Hey, don’t you know there’s
No such thing as love at first sight.” Despite the
Warning, I employed her after a short respite

During our time working together, we
Began to confide deeply in one another
At end of each day we sat and talked
Learned we both were already seeking divorce
Concluded neither could stay our present course
After divorces final we decided it might be nice
To get away from the office so we met at a lake
That we still consider as our very special place

Now as I look back over our 35 years, I’m
So glad my heart jumped, and the little voice
Was wrong, there is lasting love at first sight
