Windmills Of Your Mind

by Diana L Crawford

20 Line Poem Contest Winner

Like footprints stamped into the wet sand
Like the sea that's rolled back off the land
Like the music of the midnight band
That plays all night long 'Come Take My Hand'

Like an eagle soaring 'cross the sky
It looks so free that it makes you sigh
Like the very old who wait to die
A thought to ponder and wonder why

Like stars that once shone in outer space
Like the look upon a sad man's face
You can't tell that he has been replaced
A saddened man never leaves a trace

Like the heart that's crying out in fear
For the true love that was once so near
Like a ring that leads us right back here
To stop and face yet another year

Like a gold mirror left as a sign
To show how time has made you so blind
Like the many circles that you find
In the darkest windmills of your mind
