Not an enjoyable time of year for me.
I'm A Christmas Grinch
I am a Grinch.
I will not flinch from admitting this.
It is a cinch that a Christmas kiss
will not meet yours upon that day.
It’s safe to say I’ll be far away.
I will pray in my own sweet way
because all that noise
brings me none of the joys
that others find in spending cash.
Excuse me now, I gotta dash
and run a mile.
You may smile when you see my back.
Yes, social graces I do lack.
I’ve given myself the Christmas sack.
Cut me some slack, I don’t need any flak.
The sound of carols as muzak
in shopping streets and in the mall
does not enthral.
It makes me curl into a ball
with fingers in my ears,
my face a-stream with tears.
I can’t stand a crowd –
everyone is far too loud,
they jam my space, get in my face.
I think excess is a disgrace.
Wasteful presents, too much food
puts me in a lousy mood.
And this is why I am so Grinched,
wanting Santa to be lynched;
my flaw of Christmas grumps
that keeps me down in the dumps:
so much laughter, so much fun,
reminds me how I myself have none.
Just memories of what used to be
when happy I was, with him and me.
On Christmas Day he went away.
Now I’m a Grinch; that’s all I’ll say.
I know I should be intermingling
but all that Christmas jingling
just jangles nerves and causes stress.
Good luck to you all, and God Bless.
