Collecting Dust

by DragonSkulls

So long ago, my precious friend,
             what joyous times we shared.
We watched the world so quickly pass
             but neither of us cared.

Each morning you would welcome me,
the spark to start my day.
The woes I knew that lie ahead,
you'd hold them all at bay.

             Each waking moment, within reach,
             you'd calm my every fear.
Each breath was held so beautifully
             in moments so sincere.

             But sadly time and circumstance
has torn our bond in twain,
like resin on a tarnished heart
that coats my thoughts in pain.

The memories that stem from this,
             yet smokey in my mind,
are cherished remnants I hold dear
             though you were left behind.

I had to yield to life and work.
             Such bitter fate was wrong.
Now dusty on the shelf you weep...
             my poor, neglected bong.
