A Listening Ear

by Y. M. Roger

I sat in the kitchen, talking to Caitlyn, wiping my tears.

“It’s always him first, you know?”

Caitlyn continued her kneading, letting me talk it out for myself as usual.

After more thinking aloud, I decided.

“Yep! Tomorrow, he’s out.”

Caitlyn agreed, fuzzy face bumping my chin. She always understands.

50 Word Flash Fiction writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a story that is a dribble. That's 50 words. Title not included in count.

**Although it usually refers to the 'manipulation' or 'working' of dough in the process of bread-making, biscuits, and the like, 'kneading' is also a common behavior seen in domestic cats, in which the feline pushes in and out with its front paws, alternating between left and right. Cats often perform this motion on soft surfaces, including blankets, other animals and laps of 'their people'.
