Anette called me ugly yesterday. When I got home, I told Mum and she was furious.

This morning, when she took me to school, she talked to Anette.

'Why did you insult Bill? Have you looked at yourself in the mirror recently?'

Anette didn't speak and her mother just stared at us.

After our mothers left, Anette apologized.

'I'm sorry. I didn't mean to offend you. It's just... well, I'd never seen a hippo before I met you. And you are so big and wrinkly...'

I smiled at her.

'We are an acquired taste. You are quite funny-looking yourself, to be frank,' I said.

'Funny-looking? I'm just an average platypus. Everybody in my family looks the same...'
