I Can't Do This Anymore

by Y. M. Roger

The author has placed a warning on this post for language.

I look into our daughter’s eyes,
So trusting and so young.
How can I say her father lies?
You’re her hero unsung…

The pain I feel is physical,
For when I tuck her in,
Her sweet smile is equivocal,
That small hand on my chin…

“S’okay, Mama, Daddy’s just late –
He said so on the phone.”
Kissing her cheek, I must escape
Before my cover’s blown….

“Good Night,” I say as tears I fight –
Turn off ‘Dad’s Princess’ switch.
I seethe because you’re late alright
Lost in arms of that bitch…

I watch the twins playing their games,
I hear the baby sigh,
Seems that we five are what remains
Of broken fam’ly ties.

I hold my chest,  it truly hurts
 I close our bedroom door.
The tears fall fast, your name I curse,
As I sink to the floor…

My heavy sobs I try to mask
In sleeves already soaked,
I want to hate you, yet I ask
Just when did you lose hope?

And why were we not good enough?
I rage...then stop and stare.
This room, this fam’ly, built by us –
Now trashed for your affair.

When you get back from her later,
Reality awaits…
We’re five, you’re one, you damned traitor –
It's time this wreck you face.
