Marilyn Moose & Geraldine Goose

by pome lover

Children's rhyming poem Contest Winner

Marilyn Moose and Geraldine Goose
Discovered an old wishing well.
They each made a wish
But when they finished,
What they wished for, neither would tell.

“Well, I’m your best friend,” said Geraldine Goose
“I’d think you’d tell your wish to me.
“Well, if it comes true,
I just might tell you,”
Said Marilyn, “Let’s wait and see.”

“And what about yours?” said Marilyn Moose;
“Are you being secretive, too?”
“You bet I am!
My beak’s tight as a clam;
I might keep it forever from you.”

A raspy old voice from down in the well
Said, “You two are ruining my sleep
Though you both pretend,
You know in the end,
Neither a secret can keep.

So, I think I’ll come up and straighten this out
Because it’s not good if friends fight;”
And just as they feared,
An ex-tremely weird
Character came into sight.

Its head was a cabbage, with carrots for limbs,
Its middle, a spaghetti squash.
He looked at the moose
And the little grey goose
And said, "It's rude to stare, by gosh!”

His voice was so loud that it drew a big crowd
Of crickets and beetles and ants
He said, “My name's ‘Veggie’
And I think, just mebbe
I’ll give you fuss-budgets a chance.

Friends, ’specially good ones, should know everyone
Has some things kept private, inside;
Don’t bully or pout
Or try to find out,
Stay quiet; and be “dignified.”

Give her some space; don’t get in her face;
And who knows, she may come to you;
But maybe she won’t
And if not, please don’t
Be angry. Behave as friends do.

Then, Veggie said, nodding his cabbage head,
Let's take a fun photograph
Of you two moose-gooses
So, whenever you “chooses,”
You’ll think of this picture and laugh!”

Question:

Let's look at it this way and see what you think,
Which thing would mean most to you?
 A best friend forever
Who'd turn on you, never
Or a wish made that might not come true?
