When Movies Cost a Dime

by Willie P. Smith

Cooper, Scott and Duke Wayne

Were cowboy heroes of mine,

When going to the movies

Cost me and my girlfriend a dime.

Kelley, Astaire and Dailey

Displayed all their dancing skills,

News reels between double features

Outlined all the world's ills.

Crosby, Sinatra and Como

Sang all the popular tunes

Selected short features helped fill the bill,

Along with Disney cartoons.

Abbott, Costello and Skelton

Made the people Laugh,

Serials continued from week to week

Climaxing in the last half.

Superman, Captain Marvel And Batman,

Were the heroes with strength of steel.

Previews of coming attractions

Were shown at the end of each reel.

These are things I remember,

Back when youth was mine.

When going to the movies

Cost me and my girlfriend a dime.
