And the Wet Shall Inherit

by pome lover

My doorbell rang; who could it be?
I wasn’t dressed for company
In fact I wasn’t dressed at all
I’d just stepped out of the shower stall.

I don’t know why I felt the need
To even try to answer it
I threw a terry bathrobe on—
Thought, what the heck, it's not Brad Pitt.

I sloshed across the hardwood floor
And slid the lock back on the door
I opened it a tiny crack
And nearly had a heart attack!

The site I’d always longed to see
Was there with cameras aimed at me—
PCH’s Prize Patrol!
And that’s when I lost all control;

Though they were hesitant at first,
I heard a snicker, then I burst
Out laughing, and I also cried
And stammered "w-won't you come inside?"

I just could not believe my eyes
This really was a big surprise
I waved to Mom on camera
And pulled my robe closed, "tight-a."

They told the world as I stood there
In bathrobe (and no underwear),
I’d won the contest fair and square…
That I was their next millionaire!
