The Way We Danced

by Boogienights

We met by chance, a passing glance,
a shy smile and then...
A gentle touch, a whispered word,
it started way back when.

Then in '78 on a New Years date,
the Moose Club held a dance.
A dinner too, to be with you,
I thought I'd take a chance.

I had no rhythm, no disco moves,
and two left feet were mine.
But you held me close, I had no doubt,
you made me feel just fine.

The music started on the stage,
the band began to play.
We glided out, it was a dream,
that's when it went astray...

My feet kept stepping over yours,
not knowing where to go.
The tempo of the band increased,
that started out so slow.

We spun around, I stumbled quick,
and almost hit the floor.
Quite sure you couldn't take the pain,
and that we'd dance no more.

But you just looked into my eyes,
and brushed my tears away.
Then lifted me up on your feet,
and we began to sway.

Every move you made, I made,
we moved together as one.
Feet on feet and cheek to cheek,
until the song was done.

Since that night, you and I,
have danced year after year.
I still haven't got rhythm,
and sometimes I shed a tear.

And that's when you just pick me up,
and we fly across the floor.
I could've danced like this forever,
it's you that I adore.

I envied dancers Fred Astaire,
and Ginger Rodgers too.
That lucky pair, floated on air,
at dance they couldn't lose.

But in '78 on a New Years date,
I had nothing to lose.
I did the greatest dance of all,
just standing on your shoes.
