The year that changed the world...forever

Seventeen Seventy-Six*

by Y. M. Roger

RED spilled on our fields…
This eighteenth cent’ry nation
sounded freedom’s call

WHITE clouds would reveal
that July Fourth location
Independence Hall

AND Congress’ seal
on freedom’s Declaration
brave men lent their scrawl

BLUE skies shown surreal…
A birth for the duration
still worldwide enthralls

Four for the Fourth writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
This is a 'Stacked Five-Seven-Five' contest for the Fourth of July! You are to compose an offering of FOUR 'stacked' 5-7-5's that comprise a SINGLE poem on any topic that is associated with America's July Fourth Celebrations. Remember, one single 5-7-5 is written such that:

first line -- five syllables
second line -- seven syllables
third line -- five syllables

Your poem will be a 'stack' of FOUR of these with a 'Fourth of July' theme.
Everyone knows the Fourth can be different things for different people, and here's your chance to make your 'thing' the one 'thing' we all enjoy!! Your ultimate goal? Make us all want to vote for yours at the polls! :) Ready! Set! Celebrate! :) ;)

*The title was supposed to be '1776', but did you know the editor will NOT allow an 'all numerical' title...it thinks it's 'all caps'! Silly editor!! :)

AUTHOR NOTES:
1. 'Congress' here denotes the Continental Congress [June 7th - July 4th, 1776]

2. Although the vote to declare independence from Great Britain took place on July 2, 1776, the Declaration of Independence was not adopted and officially signed until two days later on July 4th. Such is why we celebrate INDEPENDENCE DAY on the 4th and not the 2nd! :)

You can read a bit more than just 'special author notes' at these two websites:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, AMERICA!! (In all caps - lol!)
