a 100 word story.
tiny flags
by judester
The family arranged lawn chairs by the road. The anticipation along the street was building as the brass band tuned up in the parking lot, ready to march.
The smiling grandfather waved a tiny American flag at his family as they settled in.
Their children and friends ran laughing through sprinklers, through the rainbow sprays of cool water.
They ate lunch, greeting their neighbours as the celebrations began to swirl around them.
The young father took his wife's hand and smiled.
They had arrived from Syria just last year.
He did not have to say a word, he just smiled.
