Comfort during pain.
Anniversary
Not today
will the songbirds sing
within the verdant leaves.
Not today
will heaven be bright;
the dark sky, too, it grieves.
Not today
did the sun shine forth
upon the rain that cried.
For today
as I sadly mourn,
is the day that you died.
Not today,
do I hear Him say:
Don’t let your heart be so.
Later on
if you trust in me,
you’ll be the one to know
that it’s not the end –
your sad heart can mend.
Again, you’ll greet your friend.
