A Grateful Flood

A tiny babe held in her arms, a miracle indeed,
A long rough birth, the father forced to make a choice in need.

"Let the mother live," said he. "Oh, please keep my Love alive."
"I don't know the baby yet, but my wife, she must survive."

Doctor's skill, a father's love, saw them through the scary night,
Now in her arms, a baby dear, her world was kept aright.

A childhood full of danger and joy, ever by my side,
My champion through all the years, she never let me slide.

My mother's love was true and sure, oh never would I doubt,
"My Lamb," she'd say, "that is what motherhood is all about."

"Eight months ago, I held her hand upon her final bed,
I traveled back across the years; the hope, the love she bred.

I had to say, "Goodbye for now, my life, my friend, my blood",
I'm left drowning in deep sorrow, but in a grateful flood."

A special thanks for the artwork, "dance of the fireflies" by MKFlood

I haven't been on the site for awhile, in part, because I was caring for my ailing parents. My dad passed away in February last year, and my mother at the end of October. It's been hard to do many things, and writing is one of them.

However, my mother was my greatest fan, and I wrote this for her.
