Shall We Dance?

by Y. M. Roger

Repetition Contest Winner

“Shall we dance?” he so gently asked,

And though I was but a teen,

I took his hand, and oh! we danced

Here and there and in-between...

Life carried on, and its crushing weight

Was nearly all I could stand...

“Shall we dance?” he so gently asked

And, again, I took his hand.

We lost touch again…family, friends,

Filled my time – my nights and days,

“Shall we dance?” he so gently asked,

How I’d missed his loving gaze!

“Shall we dance?” he so gently asked,

Though I’d become much too frail,

Still, I took his hand, and oh! we danced

To a life beyond the veil...
