Our older generation was so good at providing garments for their families, working their love into the items even though arthritic fingers were painful; chatting while knitting and passing on great advice. I didn't have grandparents as my own parents were old, but one of my best memories is of sitting beside my mother watching her fingers steadily create a scarf or jumper for me, while sharing some of her life experiences and her hopes for my own life as I grew up.
