Sweet Memories of Rainy Days

Jumping Through Puddles

by Connie C

My favorites were the rainy days
when after school Mom walked with me.
She'd hold my hand as I jumped through
each puddle I was bound to see.

With rain boots on, I'd run along,
get soaking wet and so would she.
But never once did she complain.
I'd splash, she'd laugh so easily.

Then suddenly I'm all grown up.
My daughter, a most active one,
would grab our boots on rainy days
to splash in puddles. Oh, such fun!

I'm now a grandma with bad knees
but I don't let them hold me back.
Through puddles, though not fast, I'll run
while holding hands with grandson Jack.

Yes, when it rains and puddles form,
I'll sometimes smile with pure delight.
Recalling fun with those I love
is what makes rainy days alright.

One of my fondest memories is of my mother and me walking home from school on a rainy day when I was quite young. She was a very young mom and seemed to enjoy jumping puddles as much as did I.
