A Rondel Entry

A Mother's Love

by June Sargent

Rondel Poetry Contest Winner

With wings a flutter she heads back to her nest
as open mouths are clamoring for a treat
A mother's love so natural and sweet
With tummies full her babies can now rest

To satisfy will ever be her quest
despite cool rains or beating summer heat
With wings a flutter she heads back to her nest
as open mouths are clamoring for a treat

With mom's devotion fledglings are most blessed
Without her life would never feel complete
Day in, day out this cycle will repeat
At nights she warms them 'neath her feathered breast
With wings a flutter she heads back to her nest
