Shooting Stars

by fm wright

Tonight there was a shooting star;
though I saw it but from afar.
Yet when I went to seek it out,
I could not even trace its route.
There was no trail against the night
that would reveal its path of flight.
It was just as if I was blind;
searching, but unable to find.
The other stars, fixed fires, burned on:
shining unto the light of dawn.

Friends can be just like shooting stars,
affecting lives both near and far.
Truly wonderful in presence,
awakening a sleeping sense,
that to an adventure might lead,
fulfilling within you a need.
Some of these stars appear each night;
producing their own kind of light,
always with us, no matter where,
displaying an undying care.
