How the Problem Was Solved
by Ogden
"Just pick up the pieces, and good luck," were their new marriage counselor's final words and only comments. Archie and Melba had just spent an hour taking turns explaining how contentious their unhappy twenty years together had been. As they closed the office door behind them, their dispirited eyes met, and, simultaneously, they shrugged.
"That's all there is to it?....The man is a genius!"
"You bet!! We should have seen him twenty years ago, Arch!"
"But there wouldn't have been any pieces to pick up, dummy."
"Oh...yeah. We should now, right?"
And they did.
