We are alone

Much of my life
I feared this state
finally waking to the fact
we are alone
no umbilical cord
attached to another
no matter how bonded
we become
how many in attendance
in birth
in death
it is a private event

I now suspect
God had a reason
for us
to reach out to Him
He wanted our love

He created us
to be with Him
not to journey away
depending on others
for our happiness
and devotion
but to share His love
I am no longer afraid
to be alone
I treasure it
and carry my bond
with God in my heart
