Now is the time I must adjust my diet choices
Early last year I was diagnosed with Diabetes
When diagnosed I went into complete denial

Yes, I believed my diet choices were healthy
Even though I felt sluggish and had no energy
All was well with me, my body, soul and mind
Right! That's why my clothes no longer fit

Rationalizing, I didn't think I needed to modify
Eating what I had been accustomed to for years
Suddenly this year a reality check finally hit me
Often, I would think eating cheese and crackers
Lasagna with toasted garlic bread healthy choices
Until I started to gain ten pounds in two months
The issue of gaining ten pounds again scared me
I did not want to have to go on diabetic insulin
Oh! Alleluia! Yes! I am finally becoming realistic
Now I will commit and know that I will triumph

Because I have started to read labels and began
Eating more protein, less carbs and sugar and
Got thirty minutes of exercise in daily this week
In addition to using light weights when walking
Noting and charting my progress in a journal
So far I have lost 3.5 lbs and am eating better
