All I want is...

The Air That I Breathe

by Artasylum

It’s been a very rough day,
I'm rushing home to hide away.

The world’s knocked me around today.
I’m feelin’ low… feeling beat down.

One more step I’m home;
good news, bad news, I’m alone.

Looking up there you are--
my beautiful, most cherished fern.

Sauntering over to give you pets
a patch of brown shows you're dead… what regrets.

Spinning into a panic attack,
I grab a scalpel and give it a whack.

The rest of the night I softly sing;
hopefully, I soothe the tender leaves.

I plead that you stay awhile.
Your lacy green brings me smiles.

Swear as soon as I called out,
the fern birthed a tender sprout .
